Ingredients
- 1 (6 oz.) package dried apples
- 1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened
- 1/4 cup ` sugar
- 1 1/3 cups flour, divided
- 2 eggs
- 3/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup chopped pecans
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
Instructions
September 2005 winner Kaiser Bakeware Recipe Contest Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Place apples and water to cover in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, and simmer, uncovered, 10 minutes. Drain and coarsely chop. Set aside until needed. Beat butter at medium speed with an electric mixer until creamy. Gradually add sugar, beating well. Stir in 1 cup flour. Press into a Kaiser Bakeware Noblesse Square Cake Pan, 9-inch by 9-inch. Bake at 325 degrees for 15 minutes or until lightly browned. Beat eggs at medium speed until thick. Gradually add brown sugar, beating well. Add remaining 1/3 cup flour, baking powder, and salt, beating well. Stir in chopped apples, pecans, and vanilla. Spread over crust. Return to oven and bake 45 minutes. Let cool completely in pan. Sprinkle with powdered sugar. Cut into bars. Yield: 1 1/2 dozen bars
